The Consistency Report – Volume 14
Your Friday dose of fitness, mindset, and lifestyle takeaways to keep you dialed in.
One of the best addictions you can have is being addicted to feeling good. And I don’t mean chasing cheap dopamine hits, I’m talking about the deep, lasting kind that comes from taking care of yourself.
It’s not selfish to do things that make you feel good. In fact, it’s the opposite. When you feel good, you show up better for your family, your work, and your training.
Of course, fitness, nutrition, and quality sleep should be at the forefront. But it goes beyond that. It’s also about hobbies that recharge you, relationships that energize you, and routines that ground you.
When you build your life around feeling good in the right ways, consistency stops being something you have to force; it becomes something you crave.
Here is what I have for you this week.
Fitness: How to Bench Press 225 Like an NFL Linebacker
With the NFL season kicking off this week, let's talk a little about the 225lb bench press test.
Every year at the NFL Combine, prospects are judged on how many reps they can bench press 225 pounds. While you might not be preparing for the draft, hitting that number is a milestone for anyone chasing strength.
So how do you get there?
Build a foundation of strength: If you can’t yet bench 225 for multiple reps, focus on progressively adding weight with solid form before chasing reps.
Prioritize frequency: Benching once a week won’t cut it. Hit the movement 2–3 times per week, mixing heavy days with lighter technique or volume-focused sessions.
Train the assistance lifts: Close-grip bench presses, dumbbell bench presses, dips, and triceps exercises all help build pressing strength.
Dial in technique: A stable arch, strong leg drive, and consistent bar path are non-negotiables. Small technical improvements can add reps faster than you think.
Condition like an athlete: NFL linebackers aren’t just strong, they’re explosive. Include push-ups, medicine ball throws, and plyometric work to transfer strength into speed and power.
With patience and smart programming, repping 225 becomes less about genetics and more about doing the right work over time.

Mindset: Never Be Satisfied with Someone Else’s Normal
Dan Gable once wrote, “Never be satisfied with someone else’s normal.” I don’t think I’ve ever related to a quote more.
I’ve always felt that my normal doesn’t have to be, nor should it be your normal. If you want more, you have to be willing to be different.
When you set out to accomplish something, ask yourself: Are you interested, committed, or obsessed? It’s okay to just be interested. But don’t expect results like those of people who are fully committed or downright obsessed.
What I’m Into
Fantasy Football: This is my first year playing, and I’m already kinda hooked. I’m excited for the season.
Back Squats: I barbell back squatted for the first time in over a year this week. Not too crazy since I’ve been doing SSB squats, but it felt good to get under the straight bar again.
This Week’s Podcast
Only one episode this week:
Eric Helms – Best Practices in Natural Bodybuilding | EP 522
In this episode, I sit down with Eric Helms—coach, researcher, and author of the Muscle and Strength Pyramids—to break down what’s actually working in natural bodybuilding in 2025. We cover training, nutrition, contest prep, and supplements, comparing the old-school methods with today’s best practices.
Final Thought
Addictions get a bad rap, but if you’re going to have one, make it an addiction to feeling good. Stack enough of those “feel good” habits together, and the rest of your life gets easier.
Looking back, anything I’ve ever been good at—lifting, coaching, writing, even building Hunt Fitness came from being a little addicted to it. That kind of obsession isn’t a weakness; it’s what turns consistency into results.
